Freelance Visual and/or Motion Designer

Looking for Freelance Visual and/or Motion Designer

We're hiring Freelance Visual and/or Motion Designers to create the covers, store assets and motion work that get our stories discovered and read. The work spans Galatea book covers, CandyJar covers, production, app store and campaign assets, and motion design.

You don't need to do all of it. Ideally we'd find one person who's comfortable across most of these areas, but we're just as happy to work with someone who's excellent at one of them, like a cover specialist or a motion designer. Tell us where you're strongest and we'll shape the work around that.

You'll sit in the design team and partner closely with content, marketing, growth and product. The work is high-volume and measured: covers and creatives are tested, and what wins ships. You'll balance craft with speed, and help build the templates and systems that let us scale.

Areas we need help with

Pick the ones that fit you. Most people won't cover all five.

Galatea book covers

• Design original covers across genres (romance, fantasy, paranormal, thriller and more) that read instantly at thumbnail size
• Create, composite and retouch imagery; create typography that fits genre conventions
• Refresh covers on existing titles and produce variants for A/B tests

CandyJar covers

• Design the cover look for CandyJar titles, matching the brand's tone and audience
• Build and maintain cover templates and guidelines so covers stay consistent at volume
• Turn around covers quickly for new releases and series

Production

• Resize, adapt and export assets across formats, platforms and languages
• Prepare files to spec (dimensions, file size, safe zones, color) and keep asset libraries organized and named
• Manage a steady queue of requests, prioritize with stakeholders and hit deadlines

App store and visual design assets

• Design App Store and Google Play screenshots, feature graphics and icons, and their localized versions
• Create paid social, display, email, in-app and web assets for campaigns and launches
• Work with growth to test store listings and creatives, and iterate on results

Motion design

• Create product launch videos for new features, apps and campaigns
• Design logo animations and animated brand moments
• Develop social animation treatments for covers, stories and campaigns
• Produce App Store and Google Play preview videos
• Build reusable motion templates so short-form video can scale

How to apply

Message me with your CV and a portfolio link, and tell us which areas you'd like to focus on. Include work that shows those areas, for example at least three book covers, a set of app store or campaign assets, or a motion reel.
