We are a young technology startup, creating a secure corporate messenger based on the Matrix protocol, developing and adapting the open-source client Element Web/Desktop. We are looking for a Tech Lead Frontend who will take on technical leadership, architecture, and team development.

Responsibilities: — Technical leadership and mentorship of the frontend developer team. — Team management: task assignment, code reviews, 1:1s, performance evaluation, employee development. — Designing SPA architecture and state management without Redux (singleton stores, flux dispatcher). — Development and support of the Element Desktop fork (main/renderer, IPC, electron-builder). — Creating SPA pages and widgets (React/TS, integration with Matrix SDK). — Writing unit tests (Jest, Vitest, RTL) and quality control. — Performance optimization: React profiling, virtualization, dealing with rerenders. — Integration with REST API / JS SDK (authentication, error handling). — Working with a large legacy codebase and fork: making targeted changes, patching dependencies, merging with upstream. — Participation in hiring, onboarding, and developing engineering culture. — Synchronization with product, backend, and management.

Requirements: — React 19 and TypeScript in strict mode (from 5 years): hooks, useSyncExternalStore, generics, discriminated unions. — Management experience from 3 years: leading a team of 2+ people, code reviews, mentorship, planning. — Technical leadership experience: making architectural decisions, technology selection, quality control. — Readiness to work with legacy class components and flux dispatcher. — Experience with large external legacy codebases and forks, confident git (rebase, conflict resolution, bisect). — Understanding of SPA architecture and principles of separation of concerns. — Experience integrating with REST API / JS SDK. — Layout: HTML/CSS, CSS Modules, PostCSS, design tokens, theming. We do not use Tailwind. — Unit tests (Jest, Vitest, Testing Library). — Engineering culture: linting, i18n, a11y, code reviews. — English at the level of reading documentation (B1+).

Will be a plus: — Production experience with Electron (IPC, main/renderer, preload, building). — MVVM, Feature-Sliced Design, flux stores. — RxJS at the architectural level (switchMap, combineLatest, shareReplay, hot/cold observables). — WebRTC and LiveKit (ICE/STUN/TURN, SDP, SFU, simulcast). — Build and tooling: Vite, Webpack, pnpm/Yarn Berry, dependency patches, Nx. — E2E: Playwright, testcontainers, Storybook. — Knowledge of Matrix or experience with APIs of other messengers. — Skills in forking open-source projects. — Experience in building processes in a startup.
