We are creating and developing the Basis SDN solution for organizing software-defined networks based on open technologies Open vSwitch (OVS) and OVN (Open Virtual Network). Basis SDN provides advanced capabilities for centralized management and segmentation of virtual networks, definition of security parameters, as well as ensuring connections to external and internal networks of cloud resources.
Our team is currently expanding, and we are looking for a Chief Expert of the team for Open vSwitch (OVS) and OVN (Open Virtual Network) technologies.
What you will be doing:
Technical Leadership and Consulting:
- Act as the chief expert on OVS/OVN for architects, development leads, and DevOps engineers.
- Participate in the design of SDN solution architectures, propose optimal ways to use OVS/OVN.
- Review technical solutions related to low-level network logic.
Research and Competence Development:
- Track OVS/OVN development in the open-source community, analyze new capabilities, and propose implementation paths.
- Conduct internal training sessions, workshops, and document best practices for the team.
Creating Proof of Concept (PoC) Stands:
- Develop and deploy isolated stands to test new architectural solutions, integrations, and hypotheses based on OVS/OVN.
- Demonstrate the operability and effectiveness of the proposed approaches to the team and stakeholders.
- Prepare documentation and test results from PoC for implementation decisions.
Integration and Development:
- Assist teams in developing integration layers between our platform and OVS/OVN (e.g., via OVSDB, OpenFlow, gRPC).
- Participate in the design of CNI plugins for Kubernetes using OVN.
Optimization and Debugging:
- Analyze and optimize OVS/OVN performance under high loads (latency, throughput, resource utilization).
- Conduct in-depth troubleshooting at the datapath, ovs-vswitchd, ovn-controller, OVN Northbound/Southbound DB levels.
What is important to us:
Deep knowledge of Open vSwitch (OVS):
- Understanding of OVS architecture: kernel (datapath), ovs-vswitchd, ovsdb-server.
- Experience in configuring, debugging, and optimizing OVS in production environments.
- Knowledge of OpenFlow and ability to analyze flows (ovs-ofctl, wireshark).
- Experience with OVSDB (RFC 7047) and tools like ovs-vsctl, ovs-appctl.
Deep knowledge of OVN (Open Virtual Network):
- Understanding of OVN components: Northbound DB, Southbound DB, ovn-northd, ovn-controller.
- Experience deploying and operating OVN in conjunction with OpenStack or Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of OVN logical objects (Logical Switches, Logical Routers, ACLs, Load Balancers) and their interaction with OVS.
Understanding of Network Technologies:
- TCP/IP stack, L2/L3 switching, VLAN, VXLAN, Geneve.
- Knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF) will be an advantage.
