Good day! A new position has opened up — Senior Ledger Platform Engineer at a B2B fintech company.

The company finances small and medium-sized businesses in the UAE through BNPL, Invoice Discounting, and Dealer Finance products and is currently actively entering the Saudi Arabian market.

At the current stage, balances, commissions, and debt adjustments are maintained on a customized low-code 1C platform, and accounting entries are exported to QuickBooks. As the business grows, with the addition of several legal entities, currencies, and a second jurisdiction, this architecture is ceasing to scale.

Therefore, the company is looking for an engineer who will take responsibility for researching and building the next generation of ledger and reconciliation infrastructure. This is not a role where a ready-made technical solution already exists. You will need to understand the existing system and determine the optimal path: use a ready-made ledger-as-a-service platform, build your own event-sourced ledger, or reasonably develop the current architecture.

Key tasks: ▪️ Understand the current accounting logic: how balances, accruals, commissions, extensions, and adjustments flow through 1C and are converted into entries in QuickBooks. ▪️ Identify the reasons for discrepancies between operational accounting and the accounting General Ledger (GL) and determine how to make reconciliation more transparent and automated. ▪️ Conduct a build vs buy research: compare ledger-as-a-service solutions, a custom event-sourced ledger, and the development of the current platform in terms of timelines, costs, risks, and UAE/KSA requirements. ▪️ Design the target ledger architecture and chart of accounts, as well as define the mapping of domain events to accounting entries for BNPL, Invoice Discounting, and Dealer Finance. ▪️ Define the boundary between the operational subledger and the statutory General Ledger. ▪️ Design an automated reconciliation system that can detect discrepancies in advance and allow any balance to be traced back to the original business event. ▪️ Plan a phased migration from the current 1C / QuickBooks setup without disrupting ongoing lending operations. ▪️ Work directly with the engineering, finance/accounting, and risk teams to reflect accruals, provisions, collections, write-offs, refunds, and other events in the credit cycle. ▪️ Consider the specifics of two jurisdictions simultaneously — UAE and KSA, including different legal entities, currencies, and accounting requirements. What's important: ▪️ 3+ years of experience in developing or operating ledger, accounting, or reconciliation systems within a fintech, payments, or lending company. ▪️ Practical experience with situations where the subledger and General Ledger diverged, and an understanding of how to diagnose and resolve such discrepancies. ▪️ Strong hands-on backend background — NestJS / TypeScript or a similar stack. This is not purely an architectural role: you will be expected to implement the solution yourself. ▪️ Deep understanding of double-entry accounting principles and their application to real financial events. ▪️ Understanding of the credit lifecycle: origination, accruals, payments, fees, extensions, provisioning, write-offs, refunds, and other operations. ▪️ Experience with event-driven architecture and understanding of Domain-Driven Design principles. ▪️ Understanding the importance of immutability, idempotency, replayability, and audit trail for financial systems. ▪️ Experience integrating or migrating with ERP / accounting systems — for example, QuickBooks, NetSuite, Odoo, 1C, or similar. ▪️ Ability to work with a high degree of uncertainty: independently research problems, formulate solution options, and provide well-reasoned architectural choices. Bonus points: ▪️ Experience specifically with credit products: BNPL, invoice discounting, asset-backed / dealer finance. ▪️ Knowledge of financial and regulatory requirements in the UAE and/or KSA. ▪️ Experience implementing IFRS 9 / ECL in the context of ledger systems. ▪️ Experience working closely with finance / accounting / controlling teams and participating in audit cycles.
