Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team
Silverstone, United Kingdom
Title: Senior Control Systems Engineer Location: Silverstone / onsite
Help deliver the precision and performance of our Formula One car. At Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team, every millisecond matters. We’re looking for a Senior Control Systems Engineer to develop and optimise the advanced control systems that deliver exceptional performance, reliability and consistency on track. Combining embedded software development, control theory, modelling and hands-on testing, you’ll oversee control systems development from simulation through to the HIL, test cell, powertrain dyno and track. You’ll also contribute to the wider electronic control systems that underpin car performance, working closely with colleagues across Control Systems, Transmission & Driveline and Trackside Support to turn complex engineering challenges into competitive advantage. This is an opportunity to apply specialist Formula One expertise to technically demanding projects where precision, innovation and performance make the difference. Develop and maintain embedded software for F1 SECU applications, including transmission control, torque arbitration, brake-by-wire and power unit interfaces. Development and optimisation of seamless shift gearbox control strategies and ECU calibrations across SIL, HIL, gearbox test cell, powertrain dyno and track environments. Develop powertrain and plant models, alongside HIL simulations, to improve control strategy development, calibration and systems testing. Analyse test results, telemetry and high-speed data to identify issues, optimise shift performance and improve gearbox and powertrain reliability. Develop and optimise wider vehicle control systems, including differential, clutch control, brake-by-wire and associated electronic systems. Own control systems projects from specification and implementation through to testing, validation, delivery and ongoing maintenance. Develop software tools for system configuration, calibration, monitoring, data analysis and performance optimisation, while contributing to coding standards and engineering methodologies. Collaborate across engineering teams, providing technical support and expertise at the factory and, where required, during test and race events. Essential experience developing F1 SECU software, including transmission control, torque arbitration, brake-by-wire systems and power unit interfaces. Essential experience developing and building embedded software for the TAG-700 or TAG-320B platforms. Proven experience developing real-time control systems using MATLAB Simulink, Stateflow and automated code generation tools. Strong mathematical and analytical skills, with a sound understanding of control theory and the modelling and simulation of electronic control systems incorporating mechanical, hydraulic and electrical elements. Experience of gearbox and powertrain testing, ECU calibration and the configuration and operation of high-speed data acquisition and analysis systems. Working knowledge of hardware-in-the-loop systems, such as dSPACE or Speedgoat. Experience with Motion Applied tools and embedded software, including SECU, ALTAS and System Monitor, would be advantageous. A degree in a relevant engineering discipline, such as electronic, mechanical, automotive or mechatronic engineering, supported by a data-driven approach to problem-solving. A proactive, flexible and collaborative approach, with the ability to take ownership of complex technical challenges and operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving motorsport environment. Make an Impact At the sharp end of Formula One, transmission performance is measured in milliseconds. Your expertise in control systems, embedded software and calibration will help unlock performance, improve reliability and deliver the precision needed to compete at the highest level. Join Aston Martin Aramco and make your impact where engineering excellence meets race-winning performance. Investing in your career is paramount. We promote professional and personal development through a provision of learning opportunities and work with you to shape your career and realise your full potential. As part of our high-performing, collaborative team, you'll enjoy a competitive package, including a discretionary bonus scheme, private healthcare, pension plan, life assurance, TEDSgroup childcare benefits, a cycle-to-work scheme, tech scheme, and car scheme. You will also have access to our state-of-the-art facilities at the AMR Technology Campus, featuring a new on-site gym with fitness, spin and yoga classes, a bistro café, and restaurant.
