We are looking for a Perl Engineer for the support and operation department of a large, high-load e-commerce project (classifieds platform).

Main Mission:

Porting legacy Perl applications to a modern stack. You will be involved in the evolution of the codebase from Perl v5.6 to the current Perl 5.40, transitioning from MySQL to MariaDB, and migrating all of this to Debian Trixie.

What you will do:

• Port legacy Perl applications to modern Debian (Trixie).
• Build distributions of the ported applications and hand them over for operation.
• Support and implement CI, configure application build systems.

Our technology landscape:

• Perl: starting from v5.6 (Catalyst under Apache, Plack/PSGI under uwsgi+nginx).
• DB: RDBMS (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and Next-gen storages (Redis, ClickHouse).
• Linux & Unix-way: bash/sed/awk and other utilities are actively used for business logic implementation.
• Infrastructure: Containerization (Docker), CI/CD.
• Will be a big plus: knowledge of Python.

We value broad knowledge and communication skills. We appreciate engineers who first find the knowledge holder, ask questions, and check the architecture, rather than spending a week debugging an obscure script without documentation. The ability to work with a large internal infrastructure and people is critical.

Conditions:

• Rate: 280,000 RUB net (for Russian individual entrepreneur).
• Location: Office in Saint Petersburg (Antares Business Center). HOWEVER! We are open to considering remote work on a case-by-case basis if you are a strong expert.
• Equipment: The OS on your PC is not critical. We will provide a Linux virtual machine to which you will connect for work.
• Duration: Project until the end of 2026 with a high probability of extension.
• Important restriction: Russian Federation citizenship.
