Full-stack
Hi! We are ivelum, involved in product development since 2003 and working on large software projects. We have flexible working hours for all employees and well-established processes with a MINIMUM of Bureaucracy (tm). You can read more about us and how we work in our Wiki, and we also recommend checking out the FAQ section.
We are looking for an experienced PHP/full-stack developer to join a team supporting and developing websites for a major media holding. The total traffic to the sites is over 70 million unique visitors per month; topics include cars, home improvement, popular science, photography, etc.
All these sites are built on WordPress, and we are often asked if we plan to rewrite them on something else. No, we don't 🙂 WordPress as a platform, of course, has its known limitations, but despite this, it is de facto the standard among professional media publishers. Mergers and acquisitions in this industry happen regularly, and according to statistics, 2/3 of new sites added to the holding's portfolio are built on WordPress, and it is simply impractical to resist this trend.
We note, however, that ours is not "wild" WordPress, but a very cultured one: with CI pipelines, code style, linters, and automated tests. We conduct code reviews and strive to follow other engineering best practices.
In addition to WordPress projects, we also have projects on other tech stacks (Python, Node.js), and we may work with them in the future.
We expect you to have at least five years of experience in web development, including practical experience with WordPress, and be ready to work on both backend and frontend. Infrastructure aspects should also be familiar to you. Ideally, in addition to PHP, you are open to working with Python and Node.js in the future.
We strongly encourage creativity, independence, and open discussions. Therefore, in addition to technical skills, we expect you to be team-oriented, ready to explore different solutions to tasks, discuss them with colleagues, design, make decisions, and implement them.
We have a Russian-speaking team, but the products we work on have an English interface and are intended for an international audience. We also actively communicate with our partners from the USA. Therefore, Russian is mandatory; for English, an Intermediate level and a willingness to improve it are sufficient (we have...
