The Opportunity

Our client is a high-growth FinTech building mission-critical payments infrastructure. Their platform powers payment processing, fraud detection, and compliance workflows for businesses handling significant transaction volume, while maintaining high availability and regulatory standards.

They are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to help design and build the core systems that power payments, fraud, compliance, and money movement across their platform.

The Role

This is a highly impactful engineering position within a small team.

You'll work on complex distributed systems, help shape architecture decisions, and build the infrastructure that supports payment processing, fraud prevention, compliance, and financial operations at scale.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving difficult systems problems, influencing technical direction, and working across multiple domains in a fast-moving FinTech environment.

What You'll Be Working On

• Designing and building payment, fraud, and compliance systems that process millions of dollars daily
• Developing scalable distributed systems and event-driven architectures
• Leading architecture decisions across multiple services and domains
• Improving platform reliability, performance, and scalability
• Building integrations with banking partners and external financial services
• Mentoring engineers and helping establish engineering best practices
• Working closely with product, risk, and compliance teams

What You'll Bring

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience
• Strong experience building distributed systems and microservices
• Deep understanding of system design, scalability, and reliability
• Strong Python development experience
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and modern backend architectures
• Excellent problem-solving and technical leadership skills
• Strong understanding of databases, APIs, and event-driven systems

Nice to Have

• Payments, banking infrastructure, or money movement experience
• Fraud, compliance, AML, KYC, or financial crime exposure
• Experience with financial APIs and third-party integrations
• Domain-driven design, CQRS, or clean architecture experience
• Experience operating systems at high transaction volume
• Experience building systems within regulated industries
