On April 16th, during an attack on Rhea Finance, the main DeFi hub on NEAR, $18.4M was stolen. Then, all the key players in the NEAR ecosystem instantly organized and started tackling the issue 🐗

In 2 minutes, NEAR Intents stopped quotes from NEAR and captured $1M. In less than a day, the hacker was identified through on-chain correlations, and Alex Shevchenko, CEO of Aurora and Near Intents, wrote to them on the blockchain (and Twitter) suggesting it would be better to return the money. The hacker agreed, but there was a problem.

Regardless of all this, on April 18th, the KelpDAO hack occurred — one of the largest DeFi attacks in history. Due to this, the Aave liquidity pool, where the thief had deposited part of the stolen funds from Rhea, was frozen, making it impossible to withdraw the money. NEAR wrote a script that regularly attempted to do this — and eventually caught the right moment.

A week after the attack, the entire sum was recovered. Rhea is back online. And the NEAR team continues to build SHIELD — an early anomaly detection system, to be able to prevent even more such cases ➖

💻 We need a Senior SWE for the Solver Network team — to lead the development of the solver network, the main component of Near Intents.

Requirements:

• 7+ years of experience;
• background in distributed systems, high-performance networking, or large-scale infrastructure;
• TypeScript and Go are mandatory, Rust is a plus;
• experience with on-chain execution at the protocol level: transfers, addresses, crypto-primitives.

Bonus: experience with MEV, solver networks, auction mechanisms; cross-chain protocols and cryptographic signature aggregation; ML for optimization tasks; open-source experience.
