Prequel
Prequel is our flagship – millions of users, trendy filters and effects. But we’ve got a whole other world beyond it: GIO and Hula, our two gen-AI apps that are redefining how people create visual content.
We’ve rebuilt our day-to-day around AI coding agents – they’re in the loop for planning, scaffolding, refactoring, and debugging. We’re looking for a senior iOS engineer who works the same way: with established habits for directing agents and verifying their output, not someone who occasionally uses Copilot for autocomplete. At the same time, AI doesn’t replace iOS fundamentals – in our domain (Auto Layout edge cases, Swift Concurrency, AVFoundation, Core Image, memory under image/video load) models still hallucinate APIs and miss threading bugs, and we need someone who can catch that.
Why you’ll like it here
- Codebase: It’s been around for 3-5 years. Some parts are modern, some are older and need refactoring. We spend time both building new features and rewriting legacy code.
- Impact: The team is small. Your opinion on product features and technical decisions actually gets heard. If you see something that can be improved, you can push for it.
- Ownership: We need someone proactive who can take a feature from idea to release and handle the post-release support.
- AI tools: Part of our everyday workflow. We invest in agent setup and share what works internally.
[Responsibilities]
As a key member of the product team, you’ll own the full development cycle:
- Build and ship new user-facing features.
- Direct AI agents through the full development loop — from spec to PR-ready diff — and own everything you ship, including catching hallucinated APIs and brittle abstractions before they land.
- Codify team conventions into agent-readable artifacts (rules files, specs, ADRs) so the team scales — not just your individual output.
- Conduct thorough code reviews — of your own code, your teammates’, and your agents’ — and maintain clear documentation.
- Participate in decomposition and estimation of tasks.
- Work on improving app’s structure and refactoring legacy code (Swift).
- Handle post-release support and iterate based on feedback.
[Requirements]
- 4+ years of experience in commercial iOS development, with time spent in product teams.
- Experience working on large-scale applications with a significant codebase.
- A mindset of writing clean, maintainable, and testable code.
- Daily, established workflow with AI coding agents (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or similar) — you can describe your workflow, your prompting habits, and where you’ve learned to push back on agent output.
- Comfortable with prompt decomposition, context engineering, and managing context windows in large codebases — you have a deliberate workflow, not ad-hoc prompting.
