Remember we were looking for someone for the non-profit institute PrincInt (PIBBSS)? They are recruiting diverse scientists to work on AI Safety. So, the assignment was to go to Africa. Not everyone would risk it, giraffes are extremely unfriendly 🦒

But today's vacancy is for remote work! We need a Horizon Scanner for a 4-month contract 🔎

What a poetic title. What needs to be done?

There are the following problems: 🌟 Alignment Goals 🤩 Understanding Agents 🌟 Philosophy of Alignment Science 🤩 Society and Institutions after AGI

A Horizon Scanner takes one of these and maps out the area: finds out who is already working on it, what research is missing, finds suitable scientists, and organizes meetings.

And if the 4-month contract goes well — you can lead the research program you prepared and become a Technical Director.

It would be good to have more from the list: 🤩 Experience in AI Safety (you've been in the field for a long time, formed opinions, are involved, and have written blog posts, or even better — papers); 🤩 Ability to take a broad view of a scientific direction and understand what is missing and where it is heading; 🤩 PhD or equivalent research experience; 🤩 Extensive scientific network and ability to connect people (plus a love for this process!).

They promise $6k–9k per month for the contract period — if you eventually become a research director, of course, it will be more! The contract is for 4 months, remote, but you will need to attend at least one event (all expenses will be covered, and visa assistance will be provided). Full-time, but if you are very strong and involved in academia, part-time can be discussed.
