R&I Avionics System Engineer

Title: R&I Avionics System Engineer Location: Kortrijk, Vlaams Gewest, Belgium

In this brand-new role, as R&I Avionics System Engineer, you connect the dots between aircraft systems, avionics, and embedded electronics, turning ideas into next-generation solutions. Working on cutting-edge European innovation projects you explore, challenge, and define high-level architecture while collaborating with OEMs and multidisciplinary teams. This is a role for someone who thrives on big-picture thinking, technical depth, and shaping what’s next, not just building systems, but reimagining them.

Your responsibilities

• You lead and contribute to the execution of research and innovation projects and programs.
• You perform studies, trade-off analyses, and system-level assessments.
• You actively contribute to research and development activities within the innovation group.
• You define high-level avionics system architectures.
• You translate aircraft-level requirements into equipment and system solutions.
• You act as the interface between aircraft systems, avionics equipment, and embedded electronics.
• You collaborate with OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and external system partners.
• You work closely with electronics, software, display, and project management teams.
• You support alignment between customer requirements and technical solutions.
• You contribute to multidisciplinary discussions and technical decision-making.
• You report to the R&D manager.

Your profile

• You hold a master’s degree of Engineering: Aerospace, Aeronautics, Electronics – ICT option Embedded Systems.
• You have + 5 years of experience in system engineering and embedded electronics in avionics or aerospace.
• You are knowledgeable with ARP4754A and model-based design.
• You have experience in hands-on engineering and problem-solving.
• You are a hands-on engineer, pro-active and solution oriented.
• You are a team player with a collaborative mindset.
• You have analytical skills.
• You have strong communication skills and are fluent in English.
• You are curious, driven and eager to work on high-impact products.
• You take initiative and are innovative.
