Industrial Automation Engineer (TwinCAT / Beckhoff)
About project
Discovery phase for an industrial manufacturing automation system. The specialist will analyze the existing machine control architecture, communication interfaces, data collection processes, and help define the target system design for future modernization and integration initiatives.
Key Requirements:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Beckhoff TwinCAT (PLC programming, IEC 61131-3).
- Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols (OPC-UA, Modbus, EtherCAT, RS232).
- Solid understanding of industrial automation, machine control systems, and SCADA architectures.
- Experience conducting technical discovery, audits, and assessments of existing industrial systems.
- Ability to translate operational and technical requirements into scalable architecture solutions.
- Strong communication skills and experience working directly with non-technical stakeholders.
- English or German language proficiency.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with CNC machines, robotics, G-code, M-codes, or controllers such as Fanuc, Siemens, or KUKA.
- Understanding of temperature control systems and PID controllers.
- Experience designing industrial data collection and monitoring pipelines.
- Familiarity with automotive or manufacturing quality standards.
- Experience preparing technical documentation for grants, investment rounds, or technical due diligence.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze the existing Beckhoff-based machine control system.
- Review machine communication options and integration architecture.
- Assess current automation logic, state machines, and data flows.
- Identify technical risks, limitations, and improvement opportunities.
- Produce architecture recommendations and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define future system requirements.
Engagement:
- Contract / Consulting engagement.
- Remote with occasional customer communication.
