at Telement — building a reliable infrastructure for a corporate messenger
Telement is a tech startup creating a secure corporate messenger based on the Matrix protocol. We are looking for a proactive DevOps engineer who isn't afraid of production incidents, loves to get to the root of issues, and is ready to develop the infrastructure with us.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing, supporting, and automating the entire infrastructure (CI/CD, IaC, GitOps);
- Managing containerized services (Docker, Kubernetes) and supporting virtual machines (KVM/QEMU is a plus);
- Optimizing and monitoring databases (PostgreSQL, MariaDB/MySQL);
- Investigating and resolving production incidents, participating in Root Cause Analysis;
- Configuring and fine-tuning monitoring and alerts (so they don't wake you up unnecessarily but catch real problems);
- Optimizing Docker images, speeding up pipelines and deployments;
- Writing automation scripts (Python, Bash);
- Close collaboration with development to improve deployment, testing, and fault tolerance processes.
We expect you to have:
- Experience with Ansible automation;
- Deep understanding of Docker and the ability to optimize images (multi-stage, base image selection);
- Practical experience with Kubernetes orchestration (diagnosing stuck pods, readiness/liveness probes);
- Confident work with GitLab CI/CD (or equivalents), the ability to fix red pipelines, not bypass them;
- Understanding and application of the GitOps approach;
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), familiarity with drift and resource import;
- Solid knowledge of PostgreSQL and MariaDB/MySQL;
- Ability to write Python and Bash for automation;
- English: reading technical documentation and correspondence;
- Willingness to honestly analyze your own mistakes and draw conclusions.
Will be a plus:
- Experience working in startups or small product teams;
- Experience with infrastructure in highload environments;
- Experience with KVM/QEMU and networks (OpenVPN, WireGuard, VLESS);
- Experience setting up monitoring and alerts from scratch (Prometheus, Grafana, VictoriaMetrics, etc.);
- Participation in on-call duty and investigation of night incidents;
- Working with secrets: Vault, CI variables, scanning repositories for secrets;
- Proficiency in additional programming languages.
Conditions:
- Fully remote work from anywhere in the world;
- Flexible schedule (coordination with TL, general orientation towards Moscow time);
- Payments twice a month (advance / salary);
- Salary: from $2200 to $4700 net;
- Professional growth in a comfortable environment that values initiative.
Selection process:
- HR screening — initial introduction and discussion of conditions.
- Technical phone screening (30–45 minutes) — live conversation without a test task. We will discuss real-world cases similar to our production situations.
- Interview with a technical interview component — deep dive into hard and soft skills with the team.
- Offer — on the day of the final interview.
