Freelance Designer & Typographer

We’re looking for an experienced freelance typographer / type designer to support the creation of custom fonts for sports apparel, with a particular emphasis on football.

The facts

Custom typography is a key part in sportswear - from player names and numbers on football shirts to wider personalisation and team wear. New fonts are often created each season and play an important role in the identity and commercial launch of new kits.

You will be working closely with the Creative Director to come up with new ideas and styles for custom fonts and will be responsible for executing these ideas into beautifully drawn, accurate and production-ready typefaces.

We’re looking for someone with excellent typographic craft, strong attention to detail and experience creating working fonts. This is intended to be an ongoing freelance relationship, supporting multiple sports apparel projects throughout the year.

You’ll be responsible for:

• Developing and extending character sets from existing concepts
• Drawing and refining letters and numbers to a very high standard
• Ensuring consistency across the full font
• Creating editable AI artwork
• Creating an actual working font

You’ll have:

• A love of detailed typography and considerable experience in their area
• Ideally an interest in sport & performance wear, but this is not a deal breaker!
• A folio full of examples of beautiful typographic execution
• Strong technical experience in Adobe CS - specifically Illustrator
