You can do it!
You will need to solve 5 problems in 5 hours. Before you start, we recommend completing a practice contest — it contains test tasks from previous years.
You can solve the problems in any language. All solutions are checked automatically. If your solution fails the check, try to consider possible edge cases, write stress tests, and analyze possible errors more thoroughly.
And most importantly — remember: you don't have to complete all the tasks to advance to the next stage. Start small, and we will evaluate your knowledge and skills.
After successfully completing the test assignment, you will be invited to 2–3 technical interviews. Each lasts about an hour.
You will be asked to solve 2–3 problems on coding, algorithms, and data structures, as well as answer a few theory questions. The key to successfully passing a technical interview is a good understanding of algorithms and your chosen programming language. You can solve the problems in any language.
It is important to be able to estimate the complexity of algorithms, write readable code, carefully check for errors, and not forget about edge cases. It is no less important to be able to communicate with the interviewer — to hear hints and react to them, not to be afraid to ask questions, to reason aloud, to voice emerging ideas.
Experience with independent projects — academic, work, or personal — is always an advantage. It will be helpful if you recall a couple of such examples in advance and share them with us during the interview.
These are introductory meetings with your future colleagues. They will take turns explaining how work is organized at Yandex, what they do, and what role will be assigned to you, and you will be able to ask all your questions.
Be prepared to talk about your experience, skills, and solve a couple of tasks related to the team's activities.
