About the opportunity

Bank Core runs the systems at the heart of N26 - accounts, ledgers, and the core banking logic every other team builds on. We're revamping that core right now, so the engineers who join today shape decisions that reach across the entire company. The problems are real, the domain is deep, and the impact is direct. Our services are written almost exclusively in Kotlin on Spring Boot, deployed on Kubernetes, communicating over Kafka, backed by Postgres, and running on AWS. We lean heavily on agentic coding and expect you to do the same - but you stay in charge. You question what the tools produce, review every line, and own the result. We work with a high degree of autonomy, collaborate closely, and share what we learn. In this role, you will

• Own features end to end on systems that move real money for millions of customers
• Go deep on the banking domain - payments, ledgers, and the rules beneath them - and use that understanding to question and sharpen what we build
• Drive your own priorities within a cross-functional team, and unblock yourself when you hit a wall
• Raise problems early with a proposed solution, instead of working around them
• Ship incremental improvements and share your findings - including at our Get Stuff Done Days (GSDD)

What you need to be successful

Skills:

• Solid grasp of microservice architecture
• Comfortable with relational databases, Postgres preferred
• Experience operating in a modern cloud environment, ideally AWS and Kubernetes
• Full professional proficiency in English

Nice to have:

• Event-driven systems with Kafka
• Payments, ledgers, or other banking/fintech domain experience
