Developer for the Event Monitoring Group

Our group is part of the Observability Platform at Yandex. We help Yandex developers deploy services in the cloud, and help the cloud remain stable and convenient. Our tasks include developing components of the internal and external cloud infrastructure:

• An event monitoring system, which allows forming a high-level (aggregated) service status based on input data about its health from various sources (tens of millions of unique events) according to user-defined rules. If an emergency situation occurs, the system will report it to the on-duty engineer via Telegram or by phone. If they do not respond, the system will call the backup on-duty engineer or the team lead.
• A notification gateway, which allows other systems to define a template and send both simple notifications via SMS, messengers, and phone, as well as more complex notification sequences ("Send a message, and if there's no response within 10 minutes, make a call") through a unified API. Yandex services send hundreds of thousands of notifications daily through our gateway, and the load is constantly growing.

We pay special attention to the convenience and simplicity of solutions that help our colleagues save time. We are looking for developers with experience in creating highly loaded scalable systems to build, optimize, and develop our services together.

Our tech stack: * code mainly in Go, some in C++20 and Python 3; * infrastructure — YDB, MongoDB, Kubernetes, OpenSearch, Terraform.

Tasks awaiting you

Designing architecture and developing product features You will be developing complex notification sending scenarios for various user cases, improving UX, and fulfilling feature requests from our users.

Developing the common platform This task involves adapting existing functionality for launch in Yandex Cloud with access for external users, as well as for creating a unified observability platform for other company employees.

Scaling systems in line with growing loads A steady load growth of about 20% per year requires regular scaling work: identifying bottlenecks, RnD of possible solutions, implementing horizontal scaling.

We expect you to

• Write in Go or want to learn it
• Know classical algorithms and data structures
• Can navigate through others' code

Will be a plus

• Have worked with monitoring systems
• Know C++ or Python
