Company: BIOCAD, a biotechnology company
Location: Saint Petersburg, RU
Employment Type: Internship
We are looking for a developer to help create practical tools for solving bioinformatics tasks for our research team. This role helps accelerate and refine data analysis, ultimately bringing us closer to the creation of new drug candidates.
What You Will Do:
- Write scripts and small tools in one of the programming languages used in the department (Python, C++, or Haskell) to speed up the processing of bioinformatics data and reduce the risk of manual errors;
- Analyze the applied tasks of the laboratory, devise competent solutions for them, and translate them into understandable code so that researchers get the desired result faster and don't waste time on technical workarounds;
- Configure and refine existing solutions to ensure they work stably on real data, not just in a test environment;
- Participate in diving into the subject area to better understand how your work influences the analysis of biological data and the development of drugs.
We Expect You To:
- Possess proficiency in programming languages (Python, C++, or Haskell) at a level sufficient to solve applied problems and support your own solutions;
- Understand the basics of bioinformatics or be eager to quickly dive into them;
- Be able to understand a new task, ask precise questions, and bring a solution to a working state;
- Write neat and understandable code that can be developed and handed over to others;
- Maintain interest in research tasks and not get lost when a task does not involve an obvious, straightforward solution.
This Will Not Suit You If:
- You are only interested in abstract algorithms, and the applied meaning of tasks is not important;
- You are not ready to delve into bioinformatics and want to work only according to a pre-described technical specification;
- You need a completely predictable flow of monotonous tasks without immersion in a new subject area;
- You dislike teamwork and are not prepared to discuss solutions with researchers and colleagues.
What We Offer:
- Hands-on work with real bioinformatics tasks, where your code is directly linked to drug discovery research;
- Rapid immersion into the subject area with support from a team that will help you not get stuck in the initial stages;
- An environment where you can learn from real data, not just educational examples, and grow with the project.
Work Conditions:
- 6-month internship;
- Work schedule of 30-40 hours per week;
- High pace of work and the opportunity to apply modern technologies and tools;
- Coffee points on each floor with coffee/tea;
- Special adaptation system: a mentor who will provide support throughout the internship;
- Opportunity to meet colleagues from other departments and receive cool company merchandise.
