Senior Backend Engineer (Java)

Rockup is a startup creating a new format of social network and messenger focused on real-time geolocation. Imagine Telegram meeting Tinder, but with an emphasis on location and the community around you, here and now.

We are flexible and fast like a startup, but we stand on solid ground, supported by a profitable parent company. And now we are looking for an engineer ready to take full responsibility for the backend — from architecture to release.

💼 What you will be doing:

• Designing and developing a scalable backend for a mobile application.
• Implementing real-time communication and geolocation services.
• Optimizing APIs for a smooth and fast mobile user experience.
• Making key decisions on technology stack, infrastructure, and processes.
• Setting up CI/CD, testing, and deploying code without pain.
• Working closely with mobile developers.

🛠 Our ideal candidate:

• 5+ years of backend development experience (ideally in highload/B2C mobile applications).
• Strong Java skills, understanding of scalable architectures.
• Experience with RESTful and WebSocket APIs.
• Excellent knowledge of databases (PostgreSQL and geo-tools like PostGIS).
• Experience with clouds (AWS / GCP / Azure) and Docker.
• Understanding of security: OWASP Top 10, GDPR/HIPAA.
• English from Upper-Intermediate (Russian will be a plus).
• It would be great if: you have Java Oracle certifications (OCA/OCP/OCM) and Open Source contributions.
