We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer for a cross-functional product team. You will be responsible for designing and developing robust backend services, participating in system design, solving complex technical challenges, and influencing the quality of the team's engineering solutions.
What you will be doing:
- Designing, developing, and maintaining production-ready backend services and REST APIs.
- Participating in system design, data flow design, integrations, and distributed services.
- Developing asynchronous and event-driven processes with consideration for reliability, idempotency, retries, and error handling.
- Designing APIs with backward compatibility, versioning, authentication, and authorization in mind.
- Optimizing service performance and scalability: queries, indexes, caching, concurrency, and data access.
- Working with MongoDB, Redis, and relational databases.
- Developing and maintaining Kafka-based integrations, including retries, DLQ, replay, and event schema management.
- Ensuring service observability: logs, metrics, tracing, and diagnostics for production issues.
- Writing unit and integration tests, participating in load testing as needed.
- Participating in code reviews, technical discussions, and architectural decision-making.
- Mentoring junior/middle developers, assisting with onboarding, and conducting technical interviews.
- Participating in on-call rotation, investigating production incidents, performing RCA, and preparing postmortems.
- Documenting architectural and technical solutions, runbooks, and service specifics.
- Collaborating closely with Product, QA, Frontend, DevOps, and other engineers.
What we expect:
- 5+ years of backend development experience and a proven track record of working independently with production services.
- 3+ years of Node.js and 3+ years of TypeScript in production.
- Hands-on experience with NestJS and Fastify; knowledge of Express will be a plus for legacy services.
- 3+ years of designing and developing scalable backend systems and distributed services.
- Practical experience applying DDD, Clean Architecture, Hexagonal Architecture, or similar approaches.
- 4+ years of MongoDB: schema design, indexes, query optimization, replication.
- Experience working with relational databases and understanding of schema design and query optimization principles.
- 3+ years of REST API: versioning, backward compatibility, authentication, and authorization.
- 3+ years of Kafka in production: event-driven processing, idempotency, retries, DLQ, replay.
- Good understanding of asynchronous programming, concurrency, and error handling.
- Experience with automated testing: unit + integration, understanding of load testing.
- Practical experience with Docker and CI/CD (GitHub Actions or GitLab CI/CD).
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes and containerized environments.
- Familiarity with at least one cloud platform: AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Experience with production incidents, RCA, and on-call rotation.
- Experience mentoring or technically guiding less experienced developers.
- 2+ years of experience in fintech, BNPL, or payment systems.
Will be a plus:
- Event Sourcing / CQRS.
- RabbitMQ, NATS, or other messaging systems.
- Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and advanced observability.
- GraphQL or gRPC.
- OpenID Connect, SSO, and identity systems.
- Experience with high-load systems, sharding, load balancing, and horizontal scaling.
- Neo4j, ArangoDB, or other graph databases.
- Terraform / CloudFormation.
