Product Design Art Director

Hi! I'm Nikolay, Design Director at ProductHow studio. We do product design for web and mobile apps. Our projects include large and complex web services, as well as business and consumer mobile applications. You can learn more about what we do on the producthow.io website.

We need a Product Design Art Director. Someone who sets the bar and is responsible for how our products look and feel: a unified visual language, taste, integrity, and level of craft. And mentors designers so that the bar is raised for the entire team. For us, design is a full cycle: from idea and prototype to launch in production.

This is not pure management. Approximately half of your time you will lead the team and set the direction, and the other half you will personally handle design for key and most complex tasks. We will discuss the ratio together.

Our team is distributed, so you can work remotely. Some products are in English, so it will be useful. We are primarily looking for a full-time employee. We will also consider part-time, for example, to get acquainted and work together first, and then transition to full-time. If part-time, then from 20 hours per week with consistent workload.

What you will do

— Set the direction and maintain a unified visual language across all studio products

— Review team's work, provide critique, and bring the design to the required level of craft

— Be responsible for the taste and integrity of the design, develop design systems

— Personally lead key and most complex products, from scenarios and prototypes to UX/UI

— Develop designers and raise the overall level of the team

— Participate in hiring and set up processes and standards together with the Design Director

— Work closely with the product team, development, and the client, explain and defend decisions

— Use AI as a leverage for yourself and the team, for prototypes and process acceleration

What we expect from you

— A strong portfolio with product cases demonstrating the design level and your role

— Experience as an Art Director or Lead, where you managed a team of designers, set the direction, raised the level of work, provided critique, and grew people

— Product thinking: the ability to create design based on business goals and user tasks, think about what problem we are solving and for which audience, and transform complexity into clarity

— Strong visual taste and insight to set the bar, not chase it

— A sense of integrity and attention to detail, from composition and typography to interface states

— Proficient work in Figma, including design systems

— Experience with AI, including creating prototypes

— Communication with business and clients

— Your English level is B2 or higher

— Experience in participation in research and use of analytics in design is a plus
