We’re looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our team.

Project description:

Production reliability and observability initiative focused on rapidly stabilizing and instrumenting an integration-heavy backend platform running on AWS Lambda and ECS. This role is execution-focused and time-sensitive. The primary objective is to implement comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and incident response coverage across Python/Django services and serverless workloads. The mandate is reliability — not infrastructure build-out or CI/CD expansion. The engineer (working with our CTO) will own production visibility end-to-end and ensure business-critical workflows are fully observable, measurable, and resilient.

Tech stack:

• Backend: Python, Django
• Compute: AWS Lambda, AWS ECS
• Observability: Datadog (APM, logs, metrics), Playwright (synthetics)
• Cloud: AWS

Experience:

• Strong experience in observability and production operations
• Hands-on with AWS Lambda, ECS, and Python/Django
• Deep familiarity with Datadog
• Background in on-call, incident response, and reliability engineering
• Bias toward ownership and fast execution

Primary Responsibilities:

Observability & Monitoring

• Instrument Lambda and Django services for full APM visibility
• Implement structured logging and centralized metrics
• Build monitoring and alerting on error rates, throughput, and async job completion
• Monitor key user journeys and backend processing flows

Alerting & Incident Response

• Design high-signal alerting strategy in Datadog
• Establish severity tiers, escalation paths, and runbooks
• Improve detection and response through clear diagnostics and operational discipline

Production Reliability

• Harden retry, timeout, and failure handling patterns
• Improve visibility into dependencies and system health
• Identify issues and incidents that require post-incident improvements beyond a symptomatic fix
• Reduce operational toil through improved instrumentation
