Next Genium is an indie studio creating games for ourselves and fellow enthusiasts. Our flagship project is the space survival game 14: Overmind.

For which tasks (responsibilities)?

Everything a game designer in a small studio usually does:

• Carry ideas from head to documents, and from documents to the build;
• Polish the project together with everyone else to a state where “it’s not shameful to show”;
• Argue until hoarse, then go have coffee and come up with something cooler;
• Sometimes swear at a build that crashed out of the blue;
• Feel thrilled when a mechanic suddenly comes to life and you want to play it just for the sake of it.

We consider it sufficient if you can:

• Come up with a mechanic and not break the whole game with it;
• Sketch a level layout so the level designer has something to work from;
• Test a build and say: “it’s lagging here, it’s boring here, let’s fix it”;
• Write a couple of lines of dialogue if the narrative designer is busy;
• Create a task in the tracker that can be read correctly from the first time.

If you've done any of this on commercial projects – that’s already good!

What kind of professional are we looking for?

It is mandatory to have solid experience or interest in working as a game designer; it is also suitable if you have no experience but have an education.

Game designers with experience working on the Unreal Engine and Godot game engines are especially valued.

Knowledge of English will give you a serious advantage during consideration!

The selection process

No formal cover letter is needed. A resume is required, and a portfolio is desirable. Further communication will be with the Head of Department and the Lead Game Designer.

There is a test task, which will be checked by the Lead Game Designer afterwards.
