Senior Backend Engineer
Location: Remote within Europe (Portugal, Ukraine, or Romania preferred)
We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale the core services that power our payments infrastructure. You will play a key role in shaping system architecture, improving reliability, and ensuring our platform remains secure, scalable, and compliant in a regulated fintech environment. You will work in a small, agile product team alongside frontend engineers, DevOps, and product stakeholders.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js, TypeScript
- Architect and develop REST APIs and microservices
- Implement and optimize GraphQL and API Gateway solutions
- Design and optimize database schemas and queries in PostgreSQL and MongoDB
- Ensure high performance, availability, and security of services
- Work closely with DevOps to deploy and manage services on AWS
- Use Docker for containerization and ensure service reliability
- Improve backend development standards, architecture, and processes
- Participate in code reviews and technical discussions
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering excellence
What We’re Looking For
- Strong experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and backend architecture
- Solid experience designing scalable REST APIs and microservices
- Deep understanding of PostgreSQL and/or MongoDB
- Experience working with AWS cloud infrastructure
- Experience with Docker and containerized environments
- Strong understanding of system design, scalability, and security
- Ownership mindset and proactive problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
