Operational Excellence (OES) is an IT company that develops, implements, and supports IT products for the mining industry, and also provides production dispatching services based on its own IT products.
Product: AI system for operational management automation. It makes decisions that were previously made by a dispatcher — in real-time, based on telemetry streams from hundreds of mobile objects. The system determines which object to direct where, to reduce downtime and queues at service points.
What needs to be done
- System core: real-time event stream processing and algorithmic decision-making
- The algorithm and predictive models are developed together with the team's ML specialists; the engineer is responsible for how they are calculated in the stream and fit within the latency budget
- Stream processing core: services read the event stream, maintain the current state of objects, and calculate decisions without accessing databases
- Decision per event: where to direct the object — or a rejection with a reason code.
- Processor architecture: how many, each key, state composition, delivery guarantees, number of partitions and replicas
- Stream mechanics: deadlines without timers, state recovery on restart and partition migration, replaying, idempotent issuing of commands to external systems
- Verification of decision quality on real data in a testbed and rollout to production
You are a good fit if you have
- At least 3 years of experience with Python
- Technical education is mandatory
- Understanding of fundamentals: OS, networks, distributed systems, stream processing.
- Kafka is mandatory
- Knowledge of the stream processing model
- Ability to justify service boundaries
- SQL: materialized views, window functions
- Docker, Kubernetes at a user level, GitLab CI
- Ability to work independently
- Actively use AI in development
- Willingness to complete a test assignment and pass a technical interview
