DS Intern for 6 months

About us: We are the recommendation systems team within Alfa-Bank's CRM. We develop recommendation models and propensity models for acquiring banking products, which are used for personalizing offers in the mobile application.

The team includes Data Scientists and analysts with a strong mathematical and technical background — primarily graduates of MIPT, MSU, HSE, and SPbSU. The intern will work alongside an experienced DS mentor and gradually dive into the entire ML model development cycle.

What will you do during the internship? Under the mentor's guidance, go through the full cycle of industrial ML model development:

• Communicate with business stakeholders and understand the task the model should solve; • Collect and explore data, build features and datasets for training; • Select metrics and baselines, train and validate models; • Analyze results and look for ways to improve model quality; • Participate in deploying the model to production; • Monitor the model's performance after launch and analyze its quality and impact on real data.

What we expect from the candidate: • Strong technical foundation: education in mathematics, physics, computer science, or related fields. Senior students (3rd-6th year) and graduates from MIPT, MSU, HSE, SPbSU, and other strong technical universities are welcome. • Good mathematical training: probability theory and mathematical statistics. • Practical experience (academic projects, pet projects, hackathons) in classical ML and understanding of DL fundamentals. • Experience with recommendation systems will be a big plus. • Proficient in Python and the main DS stack: pandas, scikit-learn, CatBoost; basic experience with PyTorch. • Knowledge of SQL and Git. • Experience with Spark / PySpark will be a plus.

Answers to 10 important questions: 1. Data: Hadoop (all Alfa-Bank data), data on the interaction of all Alfa-Bank clients with the mobile application 2. Hardware: Jupyter instances available with up to 20 CPU and 256 GB RAM. For heavier computations — a Kubernetes cluster with H100 GPUs, totaling over 1000 CPU cores and 30+ TB RAM. 3. Scale of impact on core business? ML models are a crucial part of most key banking processes. Within CRM, model logic is implemented in almost all areas of the bank's mobile application. 4. Level of Data Science development in the company? All business lines are covered by ML models, and DL has been successfully implemented where necessary. 5. Role of a Data Scientist: DS participates in the full model development cycle: from communicating with the business stakeholder and formalizing the task to data preparation, model training, production deployment, and subsequent analysis of its performance with analysts. 6.
