Head of Sortation Engineering – owner of the technological architecture of sortation center flow processes. Your task is not just to improve individual sections, but to build a unified, measurable, and sustainable order processing conveyor system, where quality, speed, and cost are a consequence of correct flow design.
What we have now
Sortation Center:
- ~9,000 m²
- 24/7 operation
- Vanderlande cross-belt sorter
- 100+ employees
- up to 30,000 orders per day
Responsibilities
Who we are looking for and why
The Head of Sortation Engineering owns the engineering model of the flow, the system of metrics, and the architecture of key changes in the sorting process. Operations are responsible for process execution, while the Head of Technological Processes is responsible for ensuring that the process design makes this execution sustainable, predictable, and economically manageable.
Areas of responsibility:
-
Management of the technological architecture of the sortation center's conveyor processes
- Design and development of the target model for order processing flow: from entry into the sortation loop to packaging and dispatch
- Identification of bottlenecks, losses, and flow gaps, and their mitigation through systemic process changes, not manual actions
- Ensuring holistic flow logic, not local optimization of individual operations
- Integration of interfaces, constraints, prompts, and other solutions into processes to reduce the impact of the human factor
Result: the sortation center operates as a unified, manageable, sustainable, and scalable flow system.
-
Management of measurability and controllability of flow operations
- Development of an operational metrics system for quality, cycle time, throughput, rework, and flow losses
- Setting requirements for process measurability, dashboards, and analytical tools as a process management tool, not just monitoring
- Ensuring transparency of sorting processes at the level of sections, flows, and critical points
Result: key process decisions are data-driven, and bottlenecks and losses become visible in dynamics.
-
Cross-functional management of the technological loop
- Interaction with operations, development, analytics, product, and other functions to implement technological changes
- Translating operational problems into engineering requirements for processes, systems, and interfaces
- Aligning priorities of engineering and technological initiatives with business goals
Result: process changes are implemented as part of a unified operational and technological model, not as a set of disparate improvements.
Requirements
What competencies are needed

- Experience in designing or optimizing flow / conveyor / production processes
Key Competencies
Soft Skills
- Systems thinking
- Ability to lead change in a complex operational environment
- Ability to manage systemic changes
- Financial thinking (P&L is one of your management and decision-making tools)
- Ability to manage a team, not just be a strong individual expert
Hard Skills
- Strong expertise in process / industrial engineering
- Understanding of flow systems: conveyors, sorting, routing, bottleneck management
- Ability to design a sustainable flow and balance sections considering throughput constraints
- Project management skills and economic evaluation of initiatives
- Skills in implementing measurement systems
- Understanding of WMS / TMS / accounting systems
- Ability to independently perform engineering calculations, analyze process data, model flow, and quickly assemble layout solutions for hypothesis testing
- Ability to build interaction with operations, analytics, IT
Will be a plus
- Experience in e-commerce / fulfillment / logistics
- Lean / Kaizen / 5S
- Experience with sorting equipment
Conditions
What we offer:
- Opportunity to work with a real flow system: a sortation center with conveyor logic, physical order flow, equipment, critical section interfaces, and tasks where engineering and technological solutions directly impact quality, throughput, and cost.
- We primarily rely on meaning, so we use a clear decision-making model: engineering and technological initiatives are considered based on their impact on flow, quality, speed, and cost, rather than through manual approvals for the sake of approvals.
- A strong team around the business and operations: you will work alongside colleagues who have a deep understanding of the product, logistics, processes, and economics, and together influence the development of a key fulfillment node.
- Work in one of the top players in the automotive market — we have a large number of customers and operational volume, complex infrastructure, and tasks where there is real scope for a strong leader.
- If you love automation as much as we do, you will have the opportunity to apply and develop new approaches to automation and management tools.
