Corporate Communications Manager
About the Team and Role
The Forbes Corporate Communications team is seeking an experienced Public Relations and Corporate Communications professional. This position will provide strategic and operational support to the team. You will report directly to the Chief Communications Officer. We are looking for a strong writer and storyteller who can craft compelling narratives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Messaging and Positioning Development
- Develop brand messaging and positioning in line with the PR strategy.
- Write: internal employee memos, thought leadership content, pitches, press releases, media invitations, social media posts, speaker bios, and more.
- Prepare proactive, strategic pitches that strengthen Forbes' reputation as a trusted media outlet, promote editorial and business content, and connect with the brand's mission.
- Assist with media outreach during the preparation and execution of Forbes' own events: Under 30 Summit, Creator Upfronts, ForbesBLK Summit.
2. Issues Management
- Collaborate with the CCO and VP: monitor potential risks, develop strategies for addressing them.
- Assess risks and prepare communication strategies or messaging.
3. Strategic Planning and Development
- Develop and implement strategies for promoting key franchises, live events, partnerships, and product launches.
- Showcase Forbes' growth and innovation. Identify new story angles for public coverage and secure placements.
4. Thought Leadership
- Identify and pursue opportunities to position Forbes' leaders as experts in their fields: event speaking (online/offline), interviews, podcasts, TV and radio appearances.
5. Employee Engagement
- Support the internal communications and employee engagement strategy in partnership with the Communications team and HR: internal newsletters, corporate events (e.g., Town Halls), and other activities.
6. Media Relations
- Cultivate relationships with key journalists to promote Forbes' business, partners, and products.
- Create news hooks around brand extensions, partnerships, and collaborations in conjunction with the executive team.
- Compile targeted media lists (newspapers, radio, TV, online contacts) using Muck Rack and other tools.
- Evaluate interview requests for Forbes leadership and handle media opportunities upon approval.
Ideal Candidate
Experience:
- 2–3 years in corporate communications, PR, and media relations (agency or in-house).
Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives.
- Quick thinking, with the ability to find unconventional solutions and solve problems creatively.
- Experience in issues management.
- Proven ability to build media relationships and secure high-level placements.
- Deep understanding of industry trends, news hooks, and audience engagement.
- Expertise in brand storytelling, event communications, internal communications, and media strategy.
Conditions and Important Details
- Work Schedule: Hybrid. In-office presence in Jersey City is required at least 3 days per week.
- Hiring Geography: This position is open only to candidates residing in the following states: California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington (state).
