Middle Game Designer
We are Grand Games, a young Kazakhstani technology holding company from Ust-Kamenogorsk. We develop online mobile games; our flagship title is Grand Mobile, an open-world RPG.
We are currently developing a new open-world RPG and are looking for a Middle Game Designer to join this project team. We are seeking a specialist with experience in balance and economy, as well as experience working on midcore or MMO projects.
Here, you will shape the gaming experience for millions of players every day. Through balance, economy, and systems, you will make the game exciting, understandable, and fun for each of them.
Key Tasks:
- Working with game economy and balance — the primary focus of the role (≈80% of tasks).
- Setting up and maintaining game configuration files (units, resources, progression, etc.).
- Calculating and balancing game systems, progression, and meta-game.
- Analyzing the impact of changes on gameplay and economy.
- Working with spreadsheets and numerical models.
- Developing and updating documentation for game systems.
- Interaction with the development team (programmers, analysts, producers).
- Participation in project development: refining existing mechanics and implementing new ones.
- Supporting the live project: making adjustments, balancing, optimizing game systems.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience as a Game Designer (Middle level) with relevant tasks.
- Experience with balance and game economy — key focus of the role.
- Experience with midcore / hardcore projects (complex systems, meta, progression).
- Ability to work with numbers: spreadsheets, configs, calculations, progressions.
- Understanding metrics, progression logic, and the impact of changes on game balance.
- Experience with documentation (GDD, feature docs) — ability to clearly and structurally describe mechanics.
- Understanding of core / meta-game mechanics and their interconnections.
Will be a plus:
- Experience with midcore / hardcore projects (complex systems, meta, progression).
- Experience with live games (support, development, balancing).
- Skills in automating work with configs / spreadsheets.
- Understanding of development processes and team interaction (programmers, analysts, etc.).
