DS Engineer (Ranking & Ads ML)

About the team

Avito Ads is a young, energetic, and fast-growing advertising ecosystem within Avito. The team faces the ambitious task of achieving multi-fold growth within several years. We are responsible for the ML part of the advertising engine: the quality of ranking, predictions, and decisions that directly impact CTR, conversions, and revenue.

Examples of future tasks:

• Ensuring the full cycle of ML model development: from task definition to A/B experiments and model support in production;

• Developing and improving CTR and CR models;

• Developing and maintaining services in Python;

• Designing A/B experiments.

We expect you to have:

• At least three years of work experience and deep knowledge in the field of ML;

• At least one year of experience in the industrial application of models — from idea to launch;

• Proficiency in Python, pySpark, and SQL;

• Understanding of how to work with Big Data;

• Understanding that DS involves more than just model training.

It would be great if you:

• Have a basic familiarity with the Go language;

• Are able to make data-driven decisions and clearly argue for your decisions, explain complex things in simple terms, and reach agreements with colleagues;

• Are ready to read scientific papers and find ideas useful for practice in them;

• Know, can, and enjoy applying mathematics, ML, and applied statistics to create algorithmic systems, see the connection between mathematical formulas and their impact on business;

• Have experience with ranking/recommendations or in the field of monetization/pricing;

• Are not afraid to write production code;

• Have engaged in scientific work and enjoy research;

• Have achievements in programming, mathematics, physics, or ML competitions.
