tldr: C++ Backend Engineer, from Intern to Senior, Yandex Search

Hello! My name is Timofey. We are building a new search engine from scratch – a common platform for Web, Images, Video, Market, and everything else. I'm looking for C++ engineers from intern to senior level. The team is young and strong – graduates of SHAD, HSE, MIPT. More details below on why this is a rare opportunity.

Yandex Search is building a next-generation search engine – a unified technological platform for Web search, Images, Video, Food, Music, Market, and other services.

Currently, different search services within the company develop largely independently. We want to change this: create a unified, distributed, fault-tolerant system that will allow launching search and recommendation scenarios on top of a common technological foundation. Conceptually, it's similar to Elasticsearch but at Yandex's scale, with greater modularity, different index formats, and the ability to describe queries through a simple SQL-like language.

The project is starting now: we are designing the next-generation Search-as-a-Service and implementing an MVP. This is an opportunity to join at an early stage and influence the system's architecture, which will determine the development of search at Yandex for years to come.

What you will do: • design a new distributed search system; • develop search indexes, compression codecs, and compact data structures; • build an efficient runtime and indexing processes; • work with systems that store tens of petabytes of data, use hundreds of thousands of CPU cores, and handle hundreds of millions of requests per second; • study existing search projects and transfer the best solutions to the common platform.

What is important: • confident C++ skills and a desire to write in it; • good knowledge of algorithms and data structures; • deep understanding of multithreading; • experience with distributed systems; • understanding of search engines and search indexes will be an advantage.
