Est Order Studio invites Junior+ / Middle level VFX Artists, as well as Lead VFX Artists / Head of VFX to join the development team of DEVIL GATE, a dark Action/RPG in the Diablo-like genre.

We are creating a full-fledged commercial project with a realistic dark fantasy visual style, dynamic combat system, and a large number of diverse characters, monsters, and abilities.

We are currently restructuring the VFX department and building it anew, which is why we are looking for specialists who want to join the team at the development stage and participate in shaping its future production pipeline.

Separately, we are looking for a department lead who can oversee the work of specialists within the department, control the quality of VFX, and help form a unified production pipeline.

What you will do

• Create in-game VFX for characters, monsters, abilities, weapons, and environment.
• Develop visual effects for the combat system: attacks, hits, abilities, buffs, debuffs, deaths, and other game events.
• Create effects for magic, elements, fire, blood, destruction, energy, and other elements of the dark fantasy world.
• Work with Niagara and Unreal Engine tools.
• Set up materials, particles, emitters, lighting, and other VFX components.
• Create readable and expressive effects, taking into account the isometric camera and combat dynamics.
• Optimize effects considering performance and technical limitations.
• Integrate VFX directly into the gameplay.
• Refine effects based on feedback from the Art Lead, Game Designer, and team.
• Interact with Character Artists, Animators, Technical Artists, Game Designers, and programmers.

For Lead VFX Artist / Head of VFX additionally

• Oversee the work of VFX department specialists.
• Distribute and coordinate tasks within the department.
• Control the visual quality and readability of effects.
• Conduct work reviews and provide technical and artistic feedback.
• Form and maintain a unified VFX pipeline.
• Define quality standards and requirements for in-game effects.
• Control the performance and technical quality of VFX.
• Establish interaction between VFX and Animation, Character Art, Design, and Programming.
• Participate in the formation and development of the VFX team.

Requirements

• Solid skills in creating in-game VFX.
• Good understanding of real-time VFX principles.
• Experience with Unreal Engine and Niagara.
• Understanding of particle systems, materials, masks, emissive, shaders, and dynamic effects.
• Ability to create effects that are highly readable in gameplay.
• Understanding of VFX optimization and the impact of effects on performance.
• Ability to independently bring a task to completion.
• Portfolio or reel required.

For Lead VFX Artist / Head of VFX

Additionally, we expect:

• Experience in creating high-quality VFX for game projects.
• Experience in building or rebuilding a VFX pipeline.
• Experience conducting reviews and quality control of other VFX Artists' work.
• Ability to form standards and workflows within the department.
• Ability to provide clear technical and artistic feedback.
• Experience coordinating a small team will be a big plus.

Will be a plus

• Experience working on Action RPGs, Hack & Slash, or other dynamic games.
• Experience creating combat VFX.
• Experience with magic, elemental, and dark fantasy effects.
• Knowledge of Houdini, Blender, or other procedural/VFX production tools.
• Experience with Shader Graph / Material Editor.
• Understanding of GPU/CPU particle systems.
• Experience with destruction effects.
• Understanding of AA/AAA production pipeline requirements.

About the project

DEVIL GATE is an Action/RPG in the Diablo-like genre with a dark fantasy world, dynamic combat system, and a large number of diverse characters and creatures. The project is currently in the MVP stage. The team is consistently preparing the project for the next stages: Pre-Alpha and Alpha.

We are already collaborating with well-known Western publishers, including THQ Nordic, Focus Entertainment, and 3D Realms, and are receiving professional feedback on the project. The team is now actively working on the received feedback, refining key areas of DEVIL GATE, and strengthening the production pipeline in line with the project's further development.

Important

At this stage, the project is being developed on the team's enthusiasm and without fixed compensation.

However, DEVIL GATE is a real commercial AA project development, not a training or hobby project.

We are looking for individuals who want to join the project at its current stage, gain real team development experience, work on production tasks, and, together with the team, prepare the project for funding.

We are also currently rebuilding the VFX department, so specialists will have the opportunity to participate in shaping the workflow and future production pipeline.

For Lead VFX Artist / Head of VFX, this is an opportunity to form and lead their own department, build production processes, and develop the team.

Upon successful funding, the cooperation format and terms will be revised according to the project's further production plan.
