About the role
We are looking for a Backend Architect to lead the technical direction of our platform. This role combines the responsibilities of an architectural leader and a hands-on technical mentor. You will play a pivotal role in our transition from a monolithic Ruby on Rails application toward a modern, distributed, event-driven, domain-oriented architecture.
Roles & Responsibilities

- Serve as a trusted technical partner to Engineering Managers, Directors, and Product leadership.
- Lead the technical vision and roadmap for the API Platform.
- Define, evolve, and communicate API standards (design guidelines, versioning, security, performance) and ensure they are adopted across engineering.
- Act as principal architect for API-related initiatives, shaping system design and guiding teams through complex trade-offs.
- Partner with product engineering squads to design and review API contracts and integrations.
- Mentor and coach engineers on API design, distributed systems, and platform thinking.
- Promote a culture of design-first collaboration (RFCs, system design reviews) and help teams make pragmatic, well-documented decisions.
Requirements
- 9+ years of experience designing, building, and operating complex production systems.
- Deep experience in modern backend frameworks (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Django, Spring Boot).
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages (e.g., Ruby, Go, Python, Java, Node.js).
- Deep expertise with cloud platforms (AWS), containerization, and serverless/cloud-native architectures.
- Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and system decomposition.
- Solid understanding of PostgreSQL and data modeling at scale.
- Fluency in English (C1 level) and Polish (C1 level).

- Flexible work hours.
- Equity shares in a rapidly growing company backed by top-tier VCs.
- Paid time off.
- A culture built on innovation that values big ideas.
- Newest MacBook + Setup Fee ($500).
