As a subsidiary of ABOUT YOU Group and a Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin)-regulated Payment Services Supervision Act (ZAG) institute, SCAYLE Payments takes care of all important aspects of payment transactions: From the integration of payment service providers and payment methods at the Online-Fashion-Stores checkout to the deposit and payout processes of end customers and merchants. The team’s objective is to make payment transactions in e-commerce simpler, safer, and future-oriented.

Job Description

• Own the design and delivery of scalable backend systems across the payment lifecycle (PHP 8.3)
• Drive architectural decisions and evolve systems towards scalable, event-driven and distributed designs
• Lead complex technical initiatives end-to-end, from discovery to production and iteration
• Champion engineering excellence through TDD, CI/CD, and continuous delivery practices. Mentor and support other engineers through pairing, feedback, and knowledge sharing
• Proactively identify and address system, process, and scalability challenges

Qualifications

• 6+ years of backend engineering experience, with strong expertise in PHP
• Proven track record of designing and scaling distributed systems in production environments. Deep experience with APIs, data storage solutions (PostgreSQL, Redis), and messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS)
• Strong understanding of cloud-native systems and infrastructure (e.g. Kubernetes, containerized environments)
• Solid architectural knowledge (microservices, event-driven, hexagonal) and ability to apply it pragmatically
• High ownership mindset with the ability to lead, mentor, and influence technical direction
