Java / Kotlin Developer for the UGC Team at Market

Market has many high-load areas, and we are responsible for one of them.

UGC is short for user-generated content; for us, this includes reviews, questions, answers, comments, likes, and more. Our daily work is to build fast and scalable services. They must handle tens of thousands of RPS load, survive bot influxes, seasonal load fluctuations, and all this without timing degradation.

Under the hood, content is split into a group of backends that interact with each other via an API-gateway and a message broker.

In development, we try to adhere to backend-driven UI principles.

What tasks await you

Creating product features This could be a light redesign of one of the pages with A/B testing, or creating a new product in the UGC stream. There will be a lot of communication with the product manager about the solution vision, as well as with client developers to refine the API. As a bonus — you can influence the product, as you communicate directly with the decision-maker.

Designing solutions It is common for us to design features independently. Of course, senior colleagues will review and can help with difficult decisions. This is important as it helps to dive deeper into the technical details under the hood, and fewer errors arise during implementation.

Tech quota Yandex constantly creates new, more optimal tools to utilize hardware more efficiently or gain various advantages. Part of the team's time is spent on implementing them. This could be switching to a different service deployment system, updating Spring, implementing a new load balancing scheme, and much more.

We expect you to

• Be immersed in backend development, confident in your knowledge of algorithms and data structures
• Be willing to write in Kotlin (we are gradually transitioning to it, we'll teach you)
• Have experience with databases, experience with PostgreSQL will be most relevant
• Be ready for DevOps elements (setting up release pipelines, scaling services, etc.)
