Greenplum/Cloudberry Developer at Yandex Cloud

Apache Cloudberry is a distributed, fault-tolerant, open-source relational database built on a Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) architecture.

A distinctive feature of this DB is the project's maturity: the DB is built on the modern PostgreSQL core and Pivotal Greenplum Database code, but with advanced enterprise capabilities. Cloudberry is used both as a universal DB and for large-scale analytics and AI/ML workloads.

Development is open source on GitHub. Committers include several large companies (from Russia, China, and Europe) and individual developers. We interact with developers from different countries and know how to technically defend our point of view.

In the Managed Greenplum team, you will be able to make a significant contribution to the development of Apache Cloudberry, optimizing the DB engine and creating new efficient data storage formats. This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with an international developer community, share experience at conferences, and influence the future of large-scale analytics and AI/ML. What tasks await you

Developing Apache Cloudberry You will improve the optimizer. Cloudberry is unique in having a cost-based optimizer of two classes: bottom-up and top-down. There is room for improvement in both.

In addition, you will need to work on the vector engine and new efficient data storage formats (PAX), as well as figure out how to make a read-only DB replica in another availability zone.

We expect that you

• Know classical algorithms and data structures
• Have worked with Linux
• Are proficient in C or C++
