Backend Developer for the YDB Client Libraries Team

YDB is an open-source distributed, fault-tolerant relational database that combines high availability, scalability, and performance. Along with its associated stack of serverless technologies, YDB enables the creation of data storage and processing systems for the most complex and demanding applications.

Furthermore, YDB is a platform for building infrastructure components. We offer users not only reliable transactions on top of tables but also ready-made solutions based on the engine itself: persistent queues, federated queries, network disks for virtual machines like Yandex Network Block Store, and others.

Our team develops drivers (SDKs) for working with YDB and everything that can be built on top of them: ORMs, migration tools, SQL Builders, and ready-made applications.

We conduct most of our development on GitHub, which means you can build your personal brand by solving work tasks. We present significant features at conferences and publish articles in Russian and English. Feature development and bug fixes are immediately visible to YDB's numerous users.

What tasks await you

Working with YDB SDK repositories You will develop code to enable the use of server features, investigate bugs, including API bugs, fix them, improve SDK observability and test coverage, enhance API usability, and add YDB support to frameworks such as TypeORM, Prisma, Sequelize, and others.

Developing YDB in the open-source community You will work on an open-source project and, if you wish, will be able to speak at Russian and international conferences.

Developing unique solutions influencing the future of distributed data storage systems To develop the platform, we use C++, Python, Go, Java, Node.js, so it's important to be able to write efficient and understandable code, optimize it, and also read others' code.

We expect you to

• Love and know how to write code, know one or more programming languages (C++, Go, Java, Python, Node.js) and be ready to learn a new one if necessary
• Know classical algorithms and data structures and know how to apply them in practice
• Understand the multithreading paradigm, be familiar with the main approaches, problems, and limitations in this area

It will be a plus

• You are familiar with software design patterns
• You know and can create convenient and easy-to-use libraries (SDKs) for developers
• You understand how distributed databases work
