Publishing house "11/18" is looking for a History Editor specializing in Russian history.

The young publishing house “11/18” focuses on Russian literature. The team’s mission is to create and preserve Russian cultural and historical heritage through artistic and documentary texts. They are seeking not just a fact-checker, but a like-minded researcher who will be passionate about the idea alongside them.

Responsibilities:

• Development and academic support of publishing projects related to Russian history: Russian cultures and daily life, specific events, historical figures
• Research of archival materials and library collections to find original manuscripts, diaries, letters, and little-known texts
• Development of concepts for series publications from the perspective of historical logic, understanding the strategy for populating the series (searching for information and material in archives, libraries, and other sources)
• Fact-checking, manuscript proofreading, verifying quotes, dates, and names against primary sources
• Writing academic reference material: forewords, commentaries, afterwords, and annotations
• Consulting colleagues on historical and cultural issues at all stages of book preparation — from concept to print submission

Requirements:

• Experience working with archival and museum collections — understanding where and how to find primary sources
• Knowledge of Russian history, cultural phenomena, Russian daily life, everyday realities, and gender studies (will be a significant plus)
• Ability to transform dry archival findings into engaging narratives for a broad readership
• Proficient written and spoken language, academic citation skills
• Self-organization and ability to manage projects from idea to finished text without constant supervision
• Willingness to propose new topics, authors, and unconventional approaches to packaging historical content

Will be an advantage:

• Higher education in history, cultural studies, or philology (specialization in Russian history (any period) will be an advantage)
• Publications or research papers on the history of everyday life, gender history, or Russian literature
• Knowledge of foreign languages for working with foreign archives
• Experience with projects in the format of "history in pictures" / illustrated non-fiction
