The Yandex Autonomous Transport communication design team is looking for an Art Director to develop the visual language for products and technologies — robotaxis, autonomous trucks, delivery robots, and other autonomous systems.
How can a person understand that they are facing a machine that perceives the world and makes decisions on its own? How can complex technology be explained in a way that makes it understandable? How can different autonomous products be made part of a single system – recognizable regardless of scale, context, or medium?
We are looking for an art director who will seek answers to these questions with us. To invent the visual language of Autonomous Transport and turn it into concrete things — brand identity, launches, websites, exhibitions, films, presentations, and the design of autonomous cars and robots themselves.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing the visual language of Autonomous Transport: you will develop the existing brand identity and design system, invent new visual principles, and monitor how they work across different products and media.
- Leading projects: you will set the visual direction for projects, assign tasks to designers, provide feedback, and help the team find non-standard solutions. You will need to work with internal designers, production teams, and external teams.
- Formulating concepts: you will work on key communication tasks from idea to implementation: search for visual direction, create mood boards, make sketches and key visuals, and control the scaling of the key idea across various channels and media.
- Working with different formats: tasks can vary: launching a new generation of robotaxis, designing an autonomous truck, a website, an exhibition stand, a technology presentation, merchandise, a film, or graphics for the urban environment. It is important to be able to project the same communication idea onto digital, physical objects, space, and motion.
- Searching for new ways to talk about technology: you will experiment with 3D, motion, generative graphics, photography, and neural network tools to determine the optimal pipeline for a specific task.
Requirements:
- Strong communication designer with art direction experience and an interesting portfolio.
- Ability to independently go from idea and visual exploration to finished design.
- Confident in working with typography, composition, graphics, and dramaturgy.
- Ability to build brand identity and develop visual systems across different media.
- Can formulate the visual direction of a project and explain your decisions to other designers.
- Ready to work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining visual integrity between them.
- Ability to assign tasks to designers and external teams, and provide meaningful feedback.
- Follows contemporary graphic design and possesses visual culture.
- Independently develops designs, seeks form, and experiments with new tools.
It will be a plus if you:
- Have worked with motion, 3D, generative graphics, and AI tools.
- Have used technological products, including in the transport sector, have experience in industrial design or spatial design, or have led other projects where communication design extends beyond the screen.
- Have created large brand identities and visual systems that live on multiple media.
- Are interested in technology, robotics, architecture, industrial design, photography, cinema, and other art forms.
