Load Balancer Developer

A load balancer is a reverse proxy server that distributes load. It terminates application-level protocols and redirects user requests to services. The vast majority of Yandex services use the load balancer for traffic distribution across data centers and protection against DDoS attacks.

The load balancer is a service's single point of failure and is exposed to external threats, so exceptionally high requirements are placed on its reliability, fault tolerance, and performance. For example, the yandex.tld load balancer installation must be ready to handle millions of requests per second.

What tasks await you

Support for new protocols You will be supporting new protocols (gRPC, HTTP/3) and reducing request processing latency in the load balancer (optimizing the coroutine engine).

Improving load testing You will improve the accuracy and informativeness of load testing, optimize dynamic load balancing algorithms, and enhance their testing methodologies.

Load balancer development You will be refining monitoring and CI/CD processes in the load balancer project.

We expect that you

• Have a good knowledge of C++
• Have a good knowledge of TCP/IP and HTTP/1.x
• Understand how the network subsystem of the Linux kernel or another OS works
• Know the basics of Python

Will be a plus

• Have developed multithreaded and asynchronous applications
• Have developed applications that actively work with the network
• Understand the workings of TLS, HTTP/2, gRPC, HTTP/3
• Have developed in Python
• Have experience with DevOps or SRE
