About the Team and Role
The Pinterest Finance & Accounting team drives a responsible, scalable, and future-forward growth strategy. We are looking for a strategic, communicative, and technically savvy Revenue Accounting Technical Manager to ensure ASC 606 compliance and manage revenue recognition processes in a dynamic, cross-functional environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary subject matter expert for ASC 606 across all Pinterest products (including multi-element arrangements, contract modifications, variable consideration, and usage-based obligations).
- Develop and maintain revenue recognition policies, checklists, and accounting memos.
- Collaborate with Legal, Sales, and other teams to analyze complex and non-standard contracts, proposing revenue-optimized deal structures.
- Partner with Finance, Legal, Sales, Business Systems, Engineering, and Product Owners to build scalable revenue recognition processes with a focus on automation.
- Determine revenue recognition approaches for new products (identifying performance obligations, estimating standalone selling prices, contract modifications).
- Translate complex accounting technicalities into simple recommendations for both non-accountants and leadership.
- Ensure timely and accurate quarterly close (journal entries, deal analysis, reporting).
- Participate in special projects, system enhancements, UAT, and ad-hoc analysis.
- Leverage AI to accelerate technical research and memo drafting: create effective prompts, evaluate AI output.
Candidate Requirements
- Deep knowledge of ASC 606 and related standards, with the ability to research and evaluate complex accounting rules and contract structures. Experience in online advertising is preferred.
- Impeccable verbal and written communication skills – the ability to explain complex topics to diverse audiences (up to top management).
- Demonstrated experience in effective cross-functional collaboration (Sales, Product, Engineering, IT, Finance, Customer Support).
- Demonstrated experience using AI to accelerate technical research or accounting operations.
- Bachelor's degree + a minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with 3+ years specifically in revenue accounting technicalities / ASC 606.
- CPA or equivalent is preferred. Experience in Big 4 or audit is a strong plus, as is a blend of experience in the technology industry and complex revenue accounting consulting.
