Eksmo Publishing House is inviting a Critic-Reviewer of Young Adult Literature.
They are looking for an erudite, thoughtful, well-read, and meticulous book lover who can not only read but literally live the text, dissecting it for style, intonation, and semantic layers. Someone who dreams of becoming the Shklovsky or Belinsky for the younger generation, immersing themselves daily in the whimsical intricacies of amazing stories and captivating plots to deliver impartial verdicts on the quality of works and provide valuable advice for their improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Analysis and review of literary works for teenagers and young adults, considering their content, style, language, and target audience.
- Evaluation of the plot, language, and characters of the reviewed works.
- Identification of "red flags" for the age group.
- Assessment of the text quality of the reviewed works, linguistic features, and comprehensibility for the target audience.
- Evaluation of the quality of the reviewed works, including their aesthetic and educational potential.
- Collaboration with publishers and authors to discuss and improve literary works.
- Formulation of constructive critical remarks and recommendations for authors and publishers.
- Participation in literary discussions and events related to youth and young adult literature.
Requirements:
- Understanding of the mentality and literary tastes of modern teenagers and young adults.
- Deep knowledge of contemporary young adult literature and an understanding of the literary perception of the younger generation.
- Impressive breadth of reading and a substantial literary background.
- Ability to analyze text not superficially but deeply, including plot, composition, language, rhythm, imagery, characters, and message.
- Capability to spot inappropriate scenes, weak character motivations, fake dialogues, clichés, and plot holes.
- Experience in writing reviews, overviews, analytical texts, or literary notes.
- Interest in cultural context, literary trends, and how youth reading habits are changing.
