Level Designer (Unreal Engine 5)
Next Genium is an indie studio that believes a level is not just walls and a floor, but a living organism. We are currently looking for a Level Designer to help us create amazing worlds. If you feel the rhythm of the game and can tell stories through the environment, we are on the same path.
What you will be doing:
- Designing levels for a hybrid of TD (Tower Defense) and action-adventure;
- Creating levels from scratch: from references to detailed blockout;
- Setting up enemy paths (AI patrols / paths), spawns, and enemy wave logic;
- Selecting references and creating flowcharts for visualizing level structure;
- Designing level layouts for detailing the placement of medium-sized objects in the location and the overall level geometry, based on player metrics and mechanics, location mechanics, and enemy mechanics;
- Controlling player flow, gameplay pacing, and difficulty progression in the location;
- Working closely with the team: discussing gameplay with the game designer, sharing ideas with the narrative designer, as well as providing information and feedback to level artists so that the level looks and functions as a cohesive whole.
Our expectations (required):
- Experience with Unreal Engine is not required, but welcomed (assembling scenes using simple geometry in the form of cubes, cylinders, spheres, etc., placing objects with logic on the scene);
- Understanding the basics of level design: navigation, boundaries, pacing, methods for improving player experience, design for combat scenes, rhythm, and replayability;
- Ability to create detailed blocking (greyboxing) and test geometry for playability;
- Ability to justify your decisions and calmly accept criticism;
- Independence and a sincere desire to make games cool and interesting.
Will be a big plus:
- Extensive playtime in various genres (to understand why one level is engaging and another is irritating);
- Having pet projects, mods, or student works;
- Experience in indie or small teams;
- Skill in maintaining level design documentation.
What we offer:

- Salary: 60,000 – 90,000 ₽ net (payments twice a month);
