Java Engineer (Search & ML)

At SberData, we are building a centralized data warehouse. Sber currently possesses one of the largest data warehouses in the country – the bank's data volume has exceeded 250 PB. Approximately 500 thousand transactions occur with our data every second. The SberData department manages Sber's data: over 22,000 employees of the bank and its ecosystem use our solutions.
We are developing a conversational agent with a hybrid search architecture: classic search (text + vectors) + graph search (entity relationships).
Tech stack: Java 17+, Spring Boot, Kafka, Opensearch, FastGraph.
Responsibilities:
Java development:
- Designing a module that combines results from search engines
- Writing efficient graph traversals with time constraints
- Implementing caching strategies for graph queries
- Optimizing memory management and GC
- Developing asynchronous pipelines for parallel engine calls.
Working with search engines:
- Configuring hybrid ranking through custom scoring functions
- Integrating vector search via Java clients
- Writing queries to FastGraph
ML component:
- Implementing ranking models
- Building features for the model
- Monitoring search quality.
Skills we are looking for:
- Java Core: multithreading, NIO, working with collections, understanding of JVM and GC. Experience in writing high-load services
- Search: understanding of ranking algorithms, experience in configuring hybrid search (text + vectors)
- Graphs: practical experience in graph traversal
- ML: understanding of search quality metrics, ability to work with ranking models.
Will be a plus:
- Experience working with search engines via Java clients.
