ABC Coffee Roasters is looking for a General Director to fully manage the business, build a strong management system, and become a key partner to the founders in the company's development.
Role Objectives:
- We are not looking for a manager who will simply maintain the existing system.
- We are looking for someone capable of deeply understanding the business, grasping the founders' vision and ABC's principles, assembling a strong team of managers, and gradually relieving the founders of a significant portion of daily company management.
- At the current stage, the founders continue to be responsible for strategy, company development, and product.
- The General Director is responsible for business management and its results.
- This is a role with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility not for a separate function, but for the company as a whole.
Area of Responsibility:
Practically the entire current business will be under your responsibility:
- Company P&L and financial results.
- EBITDA and profitability.
- Operational work of locations.
- Central kitchen and production.
- Roasting production.
- E-commerce.
- Procurement and supply chain.
- Finance and management reporting.
- HR and organizational structure.
- Marketing.
- IT and automation.
- Customer experience and service quality.
- Product and menu.
- Brand development from a business and operational implementation perspective.
At the same time, we are not looking for someone who will personally handle each of these areas.
The General Director's task is to build a strong management structure, assemble the right functional managers, define responsibilities and authorities, and ensure that each business unit operates effectively and predictably.
What needs to be done:
Deeply understand the existing business:
- One of the first tasks is to conduct a full audit of the company: organizational structure, management team, operational model of locations, production, economics, and key business processes.
- It is important to understand what is already working well, what is limiting further growth, and where the company needs changes.
- There is no task to preserve the existing structure at all costs.
- If a process is not working well, it needs to be changed. If a function is overstaffed, understand why.
- If the team lacks a strong manager, find one. If part of the work can be automated, automate it.
Build a strong management system:
- Define a clear organizational structure, areas of responsibility, and manager authorities.
- Form a strong management team and create a system where decisions are made at the right level, responsibility is not diluted, and the business does not depend on the constant involvement of the founders in daily matters.
Be responsible for financial results:
- The company has a finance function and a CFO, but the General Director must independently understand the numbers and make decisions based on them.
- At the same time, we are not prepared to improve financial results at the expense of product, service, or quality deterioration.
- The task is to make the business more efficient while preserving what guests choose ABC for.
- Prepare the company for further growth.
- Business growth requires not only new locations but also a system capable of supporting this growth.
- It is necessary to make openings more predictable, increase the efficiency of locations and production, develop automation, and create a management infrastructure that can support the company's next scale.
This is one of the key parts of the role. The General Director must confidently work with:
P&L. / EBITDA. / Cash flow. / Labor cost. / Food cost. / Cost of goods sold. / Write-offs. / Staff productivity. / Contribution margin. / Unit economics of individual locations. / CAPEX. / ROI of new projects.
Who we are looking for:
- We need someone with experience managing a fairly complex operational business.
The most relevant experience for us would be in:
- Chains of 10–20+ locations.
- Large restaurant groups.
- Lifestyle hospitality.
- Premium food/retail.
- Omnichannel businesses with multiple directions.
However, not only the previous title or industry is important.
It is important that the person can simultaneously work with numbers, people, product, and operational processes.
Candidate Expectations:
- Strong understanding of business economics.
- Experience managing a large number of employees.
- Experience building a strong management team.
- Confident work with P&L.
- Ability to build processes and control systems.
- Experience in business scaling.
- Autonomy and high speed of decision-making.
- Attention to detail.
- Understanding of product, service, and hospitality.
- Good taste.
This last point is truly important:
- ABC is a business where details matter. If a location has a dirty display case, a dusty shelf, or the product looks unappealing, the General Director should not perceive this solely as a problem for the manager of that specific outlet.
- This is a signal that the system of standards, control, or responsibility is not working somewhere.
- It is important for the General Director to equally see the big picture of the business and notice the details that make up the guest's daily experience.
Who will not be a good fit:
- A person who needs a large corporate structure and multiple approval levels to work effectively.
- A manager who solves every new problem by hiring additional people.
- A person who can maintain the existing system but cannot change it.
- A manager who understands the product well but does not work deeply enough with business economics.
- And a person who constantly needs tasks, solutions, and confirmation from the founders to move forward.
- We are looking for an autonomous manager capable of taking responsibility and gradually becoming the owner of the company's entire management system.
How the work with founders will be structured:
- Initially, the General Director will work quite closely with the founders.
- It is important to deeply understand the company, grasp the product, ABC's principles, decision-making logic, and what the founders consider fundamentally important for the brand.
- As mutual trust grows, the level of autonomy and authority will increase.
The desired model is simple:
- Founders are responsible for strategy, company development, and product.
- General Director manages the company and is responsible for results.
What we want to achieve:
Within the first year:
- Significantly reduce the business's dependence on the founders' daily involvement.
- Build a clear organizational structure.
- Strengthen the management team.
- Increase business profitability.
- Improve cost control.
- Increase the efficiency of locations and production.
- Implement a full-fledged KPI and management reporting system.
- Make the opening of new locations more systematic.
- Create a structure capable of supporting the company's further growth.
Successful results mean a company that becomes stronger and more efficient as it grows, while preserving the quality of ABC's product, service, and brand.
What we offer:
- One of the key management roles at ABC Co. The opportunity to influence not just an individual area but the results and development of the entire company.
- Real scale of responsibility. Finance, operations, team, production, development, technology, and business quality are within a single management scope.
- Direct work with the founders. The opportunity to deeply immerse yourself in ABC's entrepreneurial logic and become a partner in building the next stage of the company.
- High level of autonomy. We want to gradually transfer a significant portion of daily business management to the General Director and provide the necessary authority for this.
- The opportunity not just to manage the existing business but to rebuild and develop it. The company is growing, new locations, markets, and directions are emerging – the management system must grow with them.
- A strong product and brand, whose quality cannot be sacrificed for efficiency. Here, the General Director's task is more complex than simply cutting costs or meeting a financial plan: it is necessary to simultaneously strengthen the business economics and preserve what guests choose ABC for.
- Competitive compensation level and a motivation system commensurate with the role's scale and linked to business results.
Work format and conditions:
- Moscow.
- Full-time employment and high business involvement.
- Compensation level and motivation system are discussed individually during the interview.
