Technical Lead — Unicornbook

About Us

Unicornbook is an AI platform for personalized learning for children aged 7–9 years old.

We want to change the traditional approach to homework. A child studies the school curriculum through what truly interests them: football, Minecraft, drawing, dancing, robots, and other hobbies. AI helps adapt explanations and assignments to each child, so they can better understand the material and complete tasks independently.

Our goal is to make learning clearer and more interesting for children, and for parents to regain the time currently spent on daily homework assistance.

We are currently looking for a Technical Lead to take charge of Unicornbook's technical direction: architecture, development team, product quality, and platform evolution.

We need not just a manager who assigns tasks and monitors deadlines. We are looking for a strong technical leader who can make architectural decisions, dive into complex parts of the system, and at the same time build a team and processes.

Responsibilities

Architecture and Technical Strategy

• Define the product architecture: backend, frontend, infrastructure, and AI integrations.
• Make key technical decisions considering development speed, scalability, and infrastructure costs.
• Formulate the technical roadmap with the founders and product team.
• Design the system to remain robust with user and load growth.
• Develop the AI part of the product and understand where AI usage genuinely enhances user experience.

Team and Processes

• Form and develop the development team: Backend, Frontend, and QA.
• Establish a clear and efficient development process without unnecessary bureaucracy.
• Conduct architectural reviews and code reviews.
• Set development quality standards.
• Help developers grow.
• Make the development process transparent for the team and founders: clear priorities, deadlines, risks, and constraints.

Quality and Reliability

• Define standards for code quality, testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and documentation.
• Be responsible for the platform's performance, security, and stability.
• Design infrastructure considering future product and team growth.
• Monitor technical debt and find a balance between development speed and system quality.

Product and Business Collaboration

As a Technical Lead at Unicornbook, you will be directly involved in product decisions.

Together with the founders and the product team, you will define what we build, how to best implement it, and what technical compromises are reasonable at the current stage.

It is important to be able to explain complex technical concepts in simple terms and view solutions not only from an architectural perspective but also from a business and user perspective.

Hands-on Development

This is a hands-on role.

We expect the Technical Lead to personally participate in the development of the most complex and critical parts of the system, especially at the current stage.

As the team grows, the balance between development, architecture, and management will shift.
