SRE Engineer for the Plus Loyalty Team

Yandex AdTech is a new division within the Plus and FinTech business group of Yandex. We develop gamified B2C solutions, advertising formats, and integrations for B2B partners, and manage a large-scale loyalty program with Plus points. Our products help connect modern advertising technologies with opportunities to enhance engagement and loyalty among Yandex's most transactionally active audience.

We build distributed applications deployed in clouds and across multiple data centers. Among them are both highly loaded services that interact directly with users and services that provide background (and NRT) processing of their data.

Our team works alongside other units of the technical platform and is responsible for service operational practices in development: we build and automate processes at all levels—from launching a new service to the release cycle, SLO, disaster-alert, and writing postmortems for incidents. Our customers include business teams, product development groups, and testing teams.

What tasks await you

Enhancing Product Reliability You will work on maintaining high product quality: improving observability, conducting SLO reviews, building an incident management system—from coordinating problem resolution in production to analyzing team performance metrics after incidents (postmortem). You will also be involved in troubleshooting high-load production issues.

Infrastructure Optimization You will develop tools for efficient product resource utilization, identify and eliminate bottlenecks, order cloud server capacity, build secure infrastructure, and participate in implementing secure software development practices.

Delivery Automation You will improve the quality and speed of CD artifacts in releases, new services, and unstable environments for services on pull requests. You will also participate in organizing CD infrastructure in IaC, write scripts, and automate processes.

We expect that you

• Have worked with configuration management systems (Terraform, Salt, Ansible)
• Have worked with application orchestrators (Kubernetes, Nomad, Docker Swarm)
• Have been involved in team development using Python or Go, worked with OOP, written tests
• Have built CI/CD — from writing code to deploying to production
• Have worked with UNIX systems and the console
• Understand the principles of modern distributed web applications
• Are ready and willing to actively develop, learn new technologies and tools

Will be a plus

• Have experience in Cloud Engineering: organizing infrastructure, its operation, and troubleshooting
• Have designed and operated distributed systems 24/7/365
• Have worked on optimization and troubleshooting of DBMS (PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
• Have diagnosed processes (interpreting output from ps, top, strace, perf, tcpdump)
• Understand network protocols and routing fundamentals
• Know how user applications interact with the operating system
