SRE Engineer at Yandex Books

We are creating a service that includes e-books, audiobooks, comics, and synthetic voice narration. We integrate with other Yandex products — Music, Kinopoisk, Alisa — and develop new solutions for book-related scenarios.

We are still a young product, but we are growing every year: the number of daily active users (DAU), the service load (RPS), and the number of new features are all increasing.

In our tech stack, we prefer open-source, internal Yandex tools, and our own solutions. Almost all of our infrastructure is hosted in Yandex Cloud. We use Apache Kafka, Redis, PostgreSQL, S3, Data Transfer, Temporal. We develop our product features in pure Kotlin, and our automation is in Go.

What tasks await you

Infrastructure Automation You will be creating solutions in the form of scripts and microservices in Go to automate service creation, its operation, and infrastructure.

Support and Operations You will need to analyze incidents, troubleshoot issues, improve monitoring, optimize, and maintain the system.

Implementing Best Practices You will implement best practices and tools together with other teams and Yandex's shared infrastructure. Your tasks will include protection against DDoS attacks and bots, ensuring information security, working with Service Mesh, CI/CD tools, and much more. You will also research, create, and disseminate such practices.

We expect you to have

• Experience with Unix systems (Ubuntu) and the console
• Knowledge of how network protocols work and why routing is needed
• Understanding of how user applications interact with the operating system, familiarity with system calls, processes, and threads
• Programming skills in Python, Golang, or Java, or a desire to learn them
• A desire to grow, learn technologies and tools

Will be a plus

• Experience with Kafka, Postgres, Redis, Temporal, S3
• Experience with on-call duties on a project
• Experience designing and developing high-load systems
• Ability to work with microservice architecture
• Knowledge of how to set up a CI/CD process: from writing code to deployment in production
