Requirements:
About the role
We are looking for technically savvy design leaders who want to influence how teams work together. At Figma, design isn’t just about how something looks. It’s about how it works, how it feels, and how it scales. Our designers are systems thinkers, prototypers, storytellers, and craftspeople who prioritize quality and collaboration above all else. In this role, you’ll lead a team of world-class designers who are inventing new ways to build products on the team.
This position will allow you to grow as a design leader and partner to Product and Engineering teams. You’ll work with outstanding developers who possess deep technical knowledge and a high level of craft. Together, you'll define vision in open-ended, ambiguous areas, shape how new technologies meet real user needs, and build tools that empower teams to operate with unprecedented scale, speed, and quality.
What you'll do
- Manage a team of world-class designers and participate in hiring.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering leaders to improve team processes and execution, helping individual teams shape their roadmaps and strategy.
- Formulate your own point of view on your teams' product directions and successfully advocate for it within the organization.
- Launch and improve team processes: criteria, reviews, design sprints.
- Stay in the loop — balance people management with hands-on involvement in strategy and execution.
- Thrive in a fast-paced, experimental environment where tackling new challenges is the norm.
- Set and maintain a high bar for quality through feedback, direction, and coaching.
We'd like to see you have
- 3+ years of experience managing designers with a proven track record of building strong and resilient team cultures, as well as developing designers at various levels.
- Demonstrated experience in cross-functional collaboration to solve complex design challenges.
- Clear practical command of Figma tools and a strong ability to mentor and guide design teams.
- Experience influencing teams through strategic thinking, storytelling, and clear communication.
- Familiarity with AI development, large language models (LLMs), code generation, and generative design tools.
- Comfort with ambiguity — the ability to operate in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment where priorities can shift rapidly as technology evolves.
Bonus points
- Experience working on early-stage projects (0 to 1), AI/ML-based products, or creative tools, including bringing them to release.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a sense of humor and a proactive, solutions-oriented approach.
- Willingness to experiment with new methodologies and constantly strive for personal and team efficiency improvements.
Our values:
- We believe in hiring smart, curious people who want to learn and grow. If you’re interested in this role but your past experience doesn’t perfectly align with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be the right candidate for this or another role.
